Nazarene Ministry Requests
China Earthquake—UPDATE
Pray for those who are suffering as a result of a massive earthquake that struck China’s Sichuan province
on May 12. Nearly half a million homes have been destroyed or heavily damaged leaving 4.8 million
homeless. More than 22,000 people have lost their lives. Pray for the survivors as they endure quake
aftershocks, grieve loved ones they have lost, and begin the process of rebuilding their lives. Pray that
rescue teams and relief might arrive quickly at the areas where they are most needed.
Cyclone Nargis—Myanmar—UPDATE
Please pray the following requests for our brothers and sisters in Myanmar as the country recovers from
Cyclone Nargis:
- Pray for the ongoing relief efforts. The death toll currently stands at 43,000 with projections that it
could climb as high as 128,000. Almost 28,000 people are missing, and 1.6-2.5 million are in need of
food, water, and shelter.
- Pray for Nazarene Compassionate Ministries (NCM) South East Asia’s partnership with the local
church, national, and international aid agencies to assist wherever possible.
- Pray that relief is distributed where it is needed most urgently and isn’t hampered by the weather and
other restrictions.
- Pray for the prompt processing and approval of visa applications for NCM personnel, enabling them
to assist with the relief efforts.
Broadcast for Malaysia
Pray that the necessary personnel and resources are provided so that World Mission Broadcast will be
able to develop programming geared towards Indonesian workers in Malaysia.
Haiti
Please continue to pray for our brothers and sisters in Haiti. As the price of food continues to skyrocket,
the vast majority of people in Haiti are struggling to provide even the most basic daily bread for their
families, and this includes the 107,000 Nazarenes living there. Pray also for our missionaries, leaders, and
Nazarene Compassionate Ministries as they provide assistance.
Prayer Summit—Trevecca
Please pray for those who will attend the prayer summit at Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville,
Tennessee, May 28-30. Prayer Summits gather Nazarene leaders on each region in the U.S.A. and Canada
to dwell together in the presence of God and pray.
The Ministry and Safety of general superintendents traveling this month:
• Dr. Paul Cunningham
• Dr. James Diehl
• Dr. Nina Gunter
• Dr. Jesse Middendorf
• Dr. Jerry Porter
• Dr. J.K. Warrick
Mexico/Central America Training
Pray for the NMI coordinators in the Mexico/Central America Region (MAC) who are preparing to attend
training in Guatemala on May 23-24. Pray also for MAC Regional Director Carlos Saenz and his wife,
Elvia Rosa de Saenz, who will be in charge of the region’s Superintendent’s Annual Retreat. Pray for
traveling mercies for each person attending these meetings and for those coordinating the sessions.
Mulieri Family Request
Pray for Simone Mulieri who will be married soon. She is the daughter of missionaries Alfredo and Rute
Mulieri who serve in Argentina. The Mulieris are also one of the families we are praying for in our May
Missionary Prayer Focus.
Ryan Family Request
Pray for Mark and Kristeen Ryan as they prepare to serve in Spain. Pray that all the necessary paperwork
would be processed in a timely manner, for the sale of their car, and that God would make it evident what
they should do with their house. The Ryans are missionaries who will serve in Spain and have previously
served in the Mexico/Central America and South America Regions. They are also in our May Missionary
Prayer Focus.
