“A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out, till he leads justice to victory. In his name the nations will put their hope.”
Matthew 12:20-21 (NIV)

To be with most of our district NMI presidents from the U.S.A. and Canada during the District Leadership Conference (DLC) was an authentic blessing. Thank you for demonstrating such consistent commitment to God’s mission through local churches across your districts.

I am deeply grateful for your character and personal values, for your servant leadership as volunteers while you develop your marriage and family, for your mission critical perceptions for local and district ministry, and for your love for lost people near and far. You are some of the most productive and creative colleagues in the Kingdom!

We missed and prayed for several district presidents who could not be with us due to family, physical, career, financial, or other concerns. We support you and sensed that your prayers were lifting us at we gathered. Thank you. I have asked our team to send each DP unable to be with us a DVD copy of all of the resources we distributed. Additionally, we have added to the NMI Web site other resources that we utilized during the conference. Several asked for PowerPoint, video, and other presentations.

In case you have not yet watched the DLC video that Rob North filmed/edited, you can view it online at YouTube, HERE. Enjoy: this was a great experience! Many have already noted how energized they felt to be with other district leaders from NMI and SDMI. Next time, we will plan more time especially with NYI.

On Tuesday evening in Louisville, we watched as news broke about the Haiti earthquake. Within minutes, NMI leaders had gathered to pray. To agree with Global NMI President Jennifer Brown as she prayed for her friends in Haiti was deeply moving. During the weeks since that tragedy, we have made multiple decisions for response to Haitians. One decision concerns Alabaster funds for Haitian churches.

We want to increase Alabaster giving to help Haitians restore damaged churches and construct new Nazarene properties. We believe it is important to many other strategic needs around the world that we leave Alabaster funds undesignated. However, we do recognize the extreme importance of sending additional Alabaster funding to Haiti. Therefore, we encourage additional Alabaster giving for property needs in Haiti.

Also, the Global NMI has allocated $1,000,000 and will send it soon to rebuild and construct new Nazarene churches and ministry centers in Haiti. Additionally, all Alabaster funds given this year above the total amount Nazarenes gave for Alabaster last year will be allocated to restore and construct new Haitian Nazarene properties. Thank you for encouraging your churches to give generously for Alabaster in February and beyond.

Thanks for reminding all of our churches that the World Evangelism Fund (WEF) provides all of the infrastructure, strategy, leaders, missionaries, and ministries in 155 nations such as Haiti. We can offer compassionate response, church development, and all other ministries because of the WEF. Thank you for encouraging WEF giving systematically.

Please note that anyone who wants to send Crisis Care Kits (CCKs) for Haiti should follow the procedure on the NMI Web site HERE. Please send all CCKs to the warehouse in Pennsylvania.

Please note an alternative to sending CCKs for Haiti. NCM informed NMI that Haitians’ most pressing needs are for items such as toiletries, shoes, medical supplies, food, equipment, and shelter. Churches can purchase these items online as follows:
   1. Login to the Amazon Store
   2. When asked for the “Ship To” address, send to the following address:
        Nazarene Compassionate Ministries
Church of the Nazarene—Haiti Earthquake Relief
        Obed Santiesteban
        310 E. 5th St.
        Hialeah, FL 33010
   3. Please do not send Crisis Care Kits to this address. Send CCKs to Pennsylvania.
   4. If you have a question, please e-mail Cort Miller with NCM at
        cmiller@nazarene.org.

We pray that multiplied thousands of people in Haiti will come to Christ as a direct result of Christian care and witness during coming years of recovery and rehabilitation. NMI has an amazing opportunity to respond in praying, discipling, giving, and educating.
